72 boys teams battling it out at Detweiller Park on a perfect September day.
And the Sandburg Eagles showed they belonged with the best teams in the State of Illinois.
In the Varsity race (with 567 finishers), junior Greg Burzinski led the team with a 22nd place finish in an outstanding time of 15:07. Sophomore Tommy Brennan followed him with a time of 15:13 good for 30th place overall. Brennan's time is the 4th fastest Frosh/Soph Detweiller Park time in Sandburg history - trailing only Lukas Verzbicas, Tom Graves & Kevin Adamowski! Fellow sophomore Sean Torpy was the third Sandburg runner to cross the line - finishing in 32nd place. Sean's time of 15:15 now ranks as the 5th fastest F/S time! Finishing in 69th place was senior Harry Becker, with a time of 15:38. Closing out the scoring for Sandburg, senior Justin Adams grabbed the 84th spot with a time of 15:44.
Overall, the Sandburg Varsity boys wrapped up 5th place with 235 points - trailing only York (82), O'Fallon (147), Hersey (165) and Lane Tech (208). An awesome performance by the Varsity!
On the Frosh/Soph level, the Sandburg boys once again dominated the competition. These guys are just unstoppable! Capturing first place with a mere 48 points, the Eagles easily distanced themselves from 2nd place New Trier (117) & 3rd place York (129).
The top 7 Sandburg finishers all brought home medals, led by sophomore Dan Laskero with a 4th place finish in 15:37. Dan's time also ranks in the top 10 for Sandburg Frosh/Soph runners. Following right behind was sophomore Chris Torpy in 5th place with a time of 15:44. Sophomore Max Lehnhardt nailed down 7th place in 15:48. Next up was freshman Martin Skucas who had a great kick to finish in 15th place with a time of 16:07. Also passing a load of runners in the last 800 was sophomore Brandon Lukas - his time of 16:10 was good for 17th place. Also medaling were sophomores Paul Sieczkowski (29th in 16:26) and David Gleisner (33rd in 16:30). As I have noted before, this frosh/soph group is special & they showed it again today!!!
