Coach O'Malley is always excited for every day. But this year, he's also been a bit sad as each day passes because it's one less day that we get to spend with this team. It's a special group. They support and inspire each other. They push each other in practice and challenge one another in races. They laugh and joke with each other, but they also listen. They hold each other accountable. It's an easy group to coach. We wish it could go on forever.
We had great weather at Lockport High School for the races on Saturday. The Frosh-Soph race kicked off the day and our boys did not disappoint. Brock Rice, Sean Marquardt and Declan Tunney have formed an aggressive trio all season long - battling at the front of most every race. Brock took charge over the final 200 meters, out-kicking the Lincoln-Way East runner and taking the win in a great time of 15:39. Sean Marquardt came thru in 3rd place in 15:56 and was followed by Declan in 4th (16:02). Our top freshman, Trent Anderson, has been closing the gap late in the season and raced to 5th place in 16:12. Fellow frosh Ibrahim Tineh also finished in the Top 10 - 8th place in 16:29. Sophomores Owen Harty (13th in 17:04) and Justin Small (14th in 17:09) also raced very well. The final scoreboard showed Sandburg in first place with 21 points over Lincoln-Way East (35). It's extremely exciting to see this young group growing up and racing so well. They are going to be a force over the next 2 or 3 years!
The Sandburg boys have definitely shown themselves to be one of the top contenders in the State. The next 3 weeks - Regionals, Sectionals & State - should prove to be very exciting!

A clean sweep of the trophies on all three levels is a great way to wrap up this meet. We've got some important races coming up the next 3 weeks - Regionals (in Shorewood), Sectionals (in Hinsdale) and the State Meet (at Detweiller). We'd love to see everyone out at the course to cheer on these Eagles!

Go Eagles!
