I love the course at Channahon Community Park. It's got a permanent cross country course setup here and it has just the right amount of "out into the woods" running balanced with spectator-friendly loops. It feels right, especially on a beautiful mid-October Saturday morning.
First up was the Frosh-Soph race. The Eagles got out after it early and battled hard thru the first half of the race. Mid-way, they were struggling to hang on and in the end they probably faded a bit at the finish. Freshman phenom, Dylan Jacobs, was in total control throughout the race. He cruised to the victory in a great time of 15:59 (and earned a spot on our Top12 State squad). There were two other Sandburg All-Conference runners, with sophomore Danny Papan taking 6th in 17:04 and freshman Nick Gonsch grabbing 10th place in 17:17. Next up was frosh Robbie Sieczkowski in 18th in 17:38 and fellow frosh Brendan Duffy in 28th place in 17:57. Sophomores Josh Nolan (33rd in 18:08) and Alex Szymanski (40th in 18:20) closed things out for Sandburg.
In the end, the Eagles had to settle for second place, edged out by Lockport 57 to 63.
Complete results for all races are here.
Team-wise, the Eagles scored 19 points to win over second place Joliet Central's 60 points.
