Frosh/Soph boys race
The Sandburg Frosh/Soph boys got things started with a bang, scoring a perfect 15 points to win the F/S trophy. All seven runners earned All Conference honors! Sophomore Brandon Lukas earned the individual conference championship with a great kick and a time of 16:03. Sophomore David Gleisner grabbed 2nd place with a time of 16:07 and was followed closely in 3rd place by freshman Martin Skucas in 16:09. Sophomore Paul Sieczkowski brought home 4th place in 16:33 and soph Max Lehnhardt close out the scoring in 5th place with a time of 16:41. Freshman Tom Marchese kept things perfect with a 6th place finish in 16:55 and sophomore Anthony Lifonti finished things off with a time of 17:18, good for 12th place.
This victory capped off a perfect season for the Frosh/Soph group - champions at Lyons, Reavis, Peoria Notre Dame & Andrew, as well as conference. I'm expecting some big things from this group in the future!
Our strategy for the Varsity race was to try to run a tight pack. With a 28 second split between our 1 - 7, we did a pretty good job at conference. In the end, the Varsity Eagles overwhelmed the competition with 29 points (to 90 points for second place Joliet Central).
Individually, junior Greg Burzinski led the way with a 3rd place finish in 15:15. Next up was sophomore Sean Torpy in 5th place in 15:24. The next 3 spots (6 - 7 - 8) were taken by sophomore Tom Brennan (15:32), senior Will Becker (15:38) and sophomore Chris Torpy (15:39). Senior Harry Becker grabbed 10th place in 15:40 and sophomore Dan Laskero wrapped things up in 11th place with a time of 15:43.
Once again, all seven Sandburg runners earned All Conference honors!
The Sandburg boys showed their great depth in the open race. Junior Matt Benz-Weeden continued his huge improvement and led the way with a 2nd place finish in 15:59. Junior Mike Brower placed 3rd in 16:15. Senior Matt Hetzler, still rounding into shape after injury, took 4th place in a time of 16:22 and was followed by fellow senior Justin Adams (16:33) in 5th and junior Brady Walter (16:35) in 6th. Senior Adam Gleisner made it six Eagles in a row with a 7th place finish and a time of 16:38.
Many more open runners nailed down PR's to wrap up a great season!
