The Sandburg Junior High Invitational was held Tuesday, September 17th. Weather conditions were very favorable. Boys and Girls teams from three Junior High schools attended: Jerling, Orland and Century.
The Jerling boys cross country team ran to a convincing victory over district rivals Century and Orland Junior High in the second annual Sandburg Junior High Cross Country Invitational held at Turtlehead Lake. The Jayhawks scored 18 points for the win. Century followed with 42 points for second place while OJH tallied 134 points for third. Grant Giblin from Jerling was the individual champion completing the two mile course in an impressive time of 12:05. He was followed closely by teammate Angelo Quinones in 12:09. Luke Brannigan from Century took the third place medal in 12:13. Ben Lyons (12:27) and Scotland Perry (12:43), both from Jerling, rounded out the top five.
Joe Latorre from Jerling was 6th in 12:54, Jackson Canellis from Century placed 7th in 13:03, Adam Durkin, also of Century, took 8th in 13:07, Caleb Arrigoni was 9th in 13:12 for Jerling and the 10th place finisher was John Howaniec of Jerling .
Based on these performances, the future continues to look bright for the Sandburg High School Cross Country program.
