It might have been a little cold & snowy this past Saturday morning, but the Sandburg Eagles track team was red-hot again. In the 8-team Oak Lawn Invite, the Eagles once again captured the championship - this time with 169 points. Bremen was the runner up with 86.
As Coach O'Malley pointed out, the Varsity squad is now undefeated thru 5 invitationals this year (including indoors). The average point total has been 154 - with a margin of victory over the second place team of 68 points. What a great all-around team!
At Oak Lawn, we had nine first place finishes (out of 17 events that we competed in). Dan Huff continued to sparkle, winning both hurdle events with a time of 14.59 for the 110 meter hurdles and 40.37 for the 300 meter intermediate hurdles. Pat McMahon also ran an outstanding race, defeating 2012 state qualifier Kyle Hauser from Marist in the 1600. McMahon's time of 4:20.19 is the second fastest of the outdoor season in Class AAA this year.
Other individual first place finishers included Jim Hill (19' 2") in the Long Jump, Adam Nash (38' 6.75") in the Triple Jump and Denis O'Callaghan (9:56.44) in the 3200 meter run.
In the relays, we captured 3 more firsts. The 4x800 meter team of Joe Licata, Pat Letz, Bill Sieczkowski & Nicholas Prajka ran 8:19.86 for an easy win. The 4x100 team of Ian Hollendonner, Lemonte Booker, Jim Hill and Nick Malliaras posted another victory in a time of 43.66. And the 4x400 squad of Nick Malliaras, Jim Hill, Matt Hetzler & Nicholas Prajka closed out the meet with another win in 3:29.19.

Ian Hollendonner came thru with two 3rd place runs - 52.34 in the 400 meter run & 22.59 in the 200. Other third placers included Will Becker (4:40.24) in the 1600, Nick DePesa (5' 4") in the High Jump, Robert Boyde (43' 1.5") in the Shot Put and Aaron Graves (2:01.98) in the 800 meter run.
Some very outstanding efforts in less-than-ideal weather conditions. Great job by the boys!!!
