The second trip to Detweiller saw the Eagles battling 37 other teams - including 9 teams ranked in Mike Newman's Top 30. The race got off to a pedestrian start with the front pack hitting the first mile in 4:52. The leaders included all the individual contenders, as well as a convocation of Eagles.
When the final scores were totaled, the Eagles had nailed down first place - totalling 50 points. They had a comfortable margin over the 3-way tie between New Trier, Warren and Neuqua Valley - all with 109 points. Saint Charles East was 4th with 137 points and Downers Grove South took 5th with 162.
In 2014, the Sandburg Eagles dominated the regular season with huge wins and tore thru the Sectional Meet - besting 2nd place Hinsdale Central 39 to 94. But the Red Devils turned the tables and ran the meet of their lives at State - topping the Eagles 104 to 138 to take the title. This thing is far from over. There are key races yet to run - including the toughest Sectional in the State. It's going to be a thrill ride for sure! Let's enjoy every step of the process!!!
