In the second event, the 4 x 100 relay, the Eagles got a big second place finish with a time of 43.36. Jordon Woods led off, handing to Jibreel Brown for the 2nd leg. Leo Espino carried the baton for the 3rd leg and handed to Ayo Abiona who rocketed to the line to grab the 8 points.
Next up was the 3200 meter run and the Eagle duo of Dan Laskero (9:47.46) and Alex Szymanski (9:57.97) captured 1st and 3rd respectively. 16 big points for Sandburg!
In the 100 meter dash, Ayo Abiona was just edged out by Derrius Rodgers of Lockport - 10.81 to 10.84. Eight more points for Ayo's 2nd place finish.
Tommy Brennan scored another 10 points for the Eagles, winning the 800 meter run in 2:01.14. Brandon Lukas scored with a 6th place finish in 2:06.18.
In the 4 x 200 relay, the Eagle team of Leo Espino, Jordon Woods, Loluwa Osilaja and CJ Brncich battled to a big 4th place finish in 1:33.49.
Jibreel Brown continued his comeback tour with a 2nd place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.68.
Josh Scheldberg came thru with a nice 5th place finish in the 300 meter hurdles in 43.16.
As the night started to wind down and the scoring tightened, Chris Torpy blitzed the competition in the 1600 meter run, winning with a time of 4:18.26. Teammate Martin Skucas hung on for a 2nd place finish in 4:34.02, with the Eagles securing 18 big points in this event.
Ayo Abiona raced to another 2nd place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.52 and jumped to his 4th 2nd place finish in the Long Jump with a leap of 22-7.25. Jordon Woods took 4th in the Long Jump at 20-7.0. Woods also place 2nd in the Triple Jump with a hop-skip-jump of 42-7.0 and Christian Martinez went 40-0.0 - good for 6th place.
Weight man Chase Woolery placed 3rd the the discus with a throw of 135-6 and 5th in the shot put with a toss of 48-6.
Heading in to the last event, the 4 x 400 meter relay, the Eagles held a slim 1/2 point lead over Lockport. Leading off the relay, Leo Espino ran a 54.0 leg and handed to Jibreel Brown who smoked the 2nd leg in 50.3. Tommy Brennan battled the entire 3rd leg, fending off the challengers with a time of 52.2 and Chris Torpy closed things out with a big with and a split of 51.4. The winning time of 3:28.11 netted 10 key points and secured the victory for the Eagles.
On the frosh-soph level, the Sandburg team placed 4th with 67 points. The lone frosh-soph conference champion was the 4 x 800 relay consisting of Nick Gonsch (2:10.0), Nico Calderon (2:15.3), Patrick Morris (2:20.7) and Dylan Jacobs (2:01.6) with a winning time of 8:47.84.
