4 x 800 meter relay - Friday prelims:
Running in heat number 2, the Sandburg squad dominated the race, finishing with the fastest time of the day and a new Sandburg varsity school record with 7:46.53. My unofficial splits had sophomore Chris Torpy at 1:56.3, sophomore Tom Brennan at 1:57.5, sophomore Sean Torpy at 1:55.4 and senior Matt Hetzler anchoring in 1:57.1. Great execution and effort by this team!
4 x 100 meter relay - Friday prelims:
In heat number 3, our young 4 x 100 team ran into some problems on the final exchange and ended up with a DQ. We're looking forward to junior LaVelle Johnson, sophomore Jibreel Brown, junior Ryan Parthemore and freshman Ayo Abiona using this valuable experience and coming back next year even stronger.
4 x 200 meter relay - Friday prelims
Finishing in 4th place in heat number 5, the team of freshman Ayo Abiona, sophomore Jibreel Brown, sophomore Dean Yozze and junior Ryan Parthemore ran a time of 1:29.75. While they missed qualifying by 1.7 seconds, these guys should be back hungrier next year.
1600 meter run
Senior Denis O'Callaghan showed that he was ready for a breakthrough race in the 1600 prelims. Running in the fastest of the 3 heats, Denis ran a PR of 4:14.94 to finish 4th in his heat (and 4th fastest out of all qualifiers). Great toughness by a true competitor!
4 x 400 meter relay
Another learning experience here as this team of junior Ryan Parthemore, freshman Ayo Abiona, sophomore Tom Brennan and sophomore Jibreel Brown place 8th in heat 1 with a time of 3:29.36.
All in all, we had a lot of younger guys come out and learn what the State Meet is all about. With a little dedication and hard work, these guys can come back next year and leave a much bigger mark.
